Since a majority of our books will probably be fictions of some form or another, Isis came up with a great idea of having a non-fiction corner. This way people can discuss books they read that fall under non-fiction and find suggestions for other non-fiction books.
If there is a non-fiction book you’d like to discuss in detail, please email me atย three.nerdss@gmail.com so that I can make a page for it ๐

This page has the following sub pages.
Great idea! A few non-fics that come to mind are: Bossypants (Tina Fey), Devil in the White City (Erik Larson), and Top of the Rock (Warren Littlefield.) That last one is about the rise and fall of NBC’s ‘Must See TV’ and is pretty good, especially for any fans of shows such as Friends, E.R., Will & Grace, etc.
I REALLY want to read Bossypants–just need to get my hands on it! I’ve got a lot of science-y non-fiction on my list right now, but I read The Poisoner’s Handbook (Deborah Blum) a few months ago, and it’s all about toxicology and poisons and the beginning of forensic medicine in the Jazz Age. I’m a nerd plus I want to work in forensics so… my choices are probably going to be in the vein of science, ha ha.
I highly recommend listening to the audio version of Bossypants if possible! It’s read by Tina Fey and is so hilarious.
Those science-y non fics sound awesome! Hope you find even more great ones. =)
I’ve been planning to read Driven to Extinction (Richard Pearson) and The Wild Life of our Body (Rob R. Dunn). More sciency non-fiction books ๐
Oh, also (more science!) there’s Stiff by Mary Roach. It’s about cadavers and the various ways they’re used (for science!). She’s written another one called Spook which is about ghosts, but I haven’t read that one yet. Stiff was really good though.
Those both sound awesome! Adding them to my TBR pile this moment. I love horror/supernatural movies & TV shows but haven’t really read many books of the genre. A non-fiction about ghosts sounds pretty creepy! Maybe I’ll have to speed through TCV extra fast so I can read Spook around Halloween. =)
Just searched my local library’s catalog to put Spook on hold & realized Roach also wrote Packing for Mars. My fiance loves that book & has been telling me to read it for a while now. Another one added to my list!
Ooo, haven’t even heard of Packing for Mars! Adding that to my TBR pile! And let me know how Spook is (as you’ll probably get to it before I do!).
I feel like I’m seriously lacking in the ability to contribute in the nonfiction section of our club. *goes into the fort of shame*
SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME
I made pages for Bossypants as well as the three books by Mary Roach that were mentioned here for people who would like to discuss them in detail ๐
