Three Nerds and a Book Club was created by three nerdy women who loved to read but couldn’t find any good online book clubs so we made our own.
I’m Scatty. I love fantasy novels of any kind, though I prefer the ones with magic and witches. My favorites are the Harry Potter series and the Alex Craft Novels. I am currently doing the 50 book challenge where you read 50 (or however many books you decide, 40 for me) books in one year. I’m also curious to try the A-Z challenge where you read a book by an author with the surnames from A to Z.
Hecate here! I generally love all genres, but I’m a bit more critical and picky about the things I do read. I’ve been a Harry Potter girl since I was a child, and I like to read things that make me think. I just obtained a degree in English – books, love them enough to spend four years doing it 😛 – and now that I’m done, I’ve decided to read books for fun again.
And I’m Isis. I am the daughter of a librarian and an English professor, so reading is basically in my blood. I grew up on Harry Potter and A Series of Unfortunate Events. I will read almost any book that is placed into my hands whatever the genre. I’m currently working my way through the Game of Thrones series (A Song of Ice and Fire). I firmly believe that bookshelves should line every possible wall, and that books should be loved and read over and over again.

Happy readings!
Yay for another awesome member! 😀 I’m excited to hear what you have to say about the book.
Hi I’m Emily, 17 and insane, and really want to read as much as possible this year, working around my crazy school schedule! I’ve always loved reading, some of my favorites include: Harry Potter, which is ingrained into my soul, The Fault in Our Stars, Pendragon–mostly fantasy from when I was young, but now more realistic fiction. I actually just bought The Casual Vacancy a couple days ago, so I’m really glad I found this! Hoping to talk with you guys about some great books 🙂
Hi Emily! Welcome to the Book Club! Hope you enjoy the book and can’t wait to hear what you think! 🙂
Hi Emily! Glad to have you! I hope you enjoy The Casual Vacancy, it’s actually one of my favorite books now. Welcome to Three Nerds!
Welcome to our little club Emily! And I remember reading the Pendragon series. I LOVED it as a kid and I actually plan to pick it up again sometime soon since I only read to book 5 I think. Happy Readings!
Hi Emily! I’m happy to be a part of this group with you & look forward to some awesome book discussion. 🙂 Saw you mentioned ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ … I’m currently listening to another of John Green’s, ‘Paper Towns’ on audio and am enjoying it! Have you read that one, or any other of John Green’s work? Would love to know if there are any of his in particular that you recommend!
I recently read his cowork ‘Will Grayson, Will Grayson’ which was a very good read and I’ve had the rest of John Green’s books on my TBR pile since then 🙂
Hi there! This is a fantastic idea! My name is Caitlin. I haven’t been reading recently due to various things but I’ve been wanting to get involved in a book club for some time now to get back into the swing of things. I am hoping the casual nature of this one will help. I read mostly fantasy growing up but moved on to general fiction at the end of high school. I love The Boy Detective Fails, A Dirty Job, Howl’s Moving Castle, books by Haruki Murakami and so much more. 🙂 I think I’ll have to pass on this first book due to a busy schedule but expect me afterwards!
Hi Caitlin! Welcome to the club! We’re definitely very casual here, so I’m sure this is a good place for you to get back into reading. 🙂 Don’t worry about this month, we’ll be happy to hear your thoughts on next month’s book.
Also, I totally love Howl’s Moving Castle!
I’ve actually been curious about reading 1Q84 and maybe other Haruki Murakami books. Would you recommend his work?
Hello there!
I’m Gudrun, 15 years old and completely fond of books. This book club is an excellent initiative and I’d like to participate 🙂
I think I’m quite unique as I haven’t enjoyed the Harry Potter Series as much as everyone seems to do, but that might have been because the concept wasn’t really new to me (I’ve read The Worst Witch so many times when I was young, and liked those books over the Harry Potter series). I love books that make me think and books that show me how other people think.
I don’t think I will read The Casual Vacancy, more because I’m prejudiced against JK Rowling and detest rages than anything else. Next month you can expect me to talk along and most likely have read the book 2 days after it becomes clear which one to read. If I like it. Otherwise, I most likely won’t finish it. That’s just me 🙂
Welcome to the group Gudrun. (Cool name, just curious, how to do you pronounce it/whatis the origin?) If you don’t want to read a book or put it down because you don’t like it, that is completely okay. I usually give a book up to 50 pages before deciding if I want to keep reading or not. And if you end up not liking a book we choose, tell us why.
Also, if you have a book suggestion for the Apocalypse/Distopia genre let us know. We are still taking submissions until midnight tonight (PST).
Again, welcome and we’re glad to have you here!
Welcome, Gudrun! Like Scatty said, one thing about this book club that I like is that it’s really casual. If you don’t like a book, that’s fine. But we’d like to know why; not to judge of course, but more to be able to tell from other people’s perspectives why a book worked or why it didn’t.
Scatty is more tolerant than I am about books. I can usually tell from the get-go if I’m going to like a book. For me, it’s a stylistic problem. If i feel that the book doesn’t have a decent flow, I tend to not want to read it, so it takes me a lot longer.
BUT since I’m a co-founder, I think I’m somewhat obligated to read it and give my opinion on why I don’t like it. That’s just me
We hope you enjoy talking to us as well as talking to the other “Nerds” about our future books. And also, feel free to make suggestions on what you think is cool about the site and what we can do to improve it. We’re always open to new ideas.
Hi Gudrun! Welcome to Three Nerds! I’m glad you decided to join. As Scatty and Hecate said, don’t worry about reading every book we choose (and to sound like a broken record: let us know what didn’t work for you!). We’re all very casual here, and obviously everyone has different tastes, so we don’t judge. 🙂 Let us know if you have a suggestion for next month’s book!
Hello everyone my name is Nicole. I am 25 and I would love to participate in this book club. I love to read and do so as often as possible. I look forward to reading some amazing books with you all 🙂
Welcome to the group Nicole! We’re happy to have you 🙂 Any interesting books you’ve read recently?
I just finished The Catcher in the Rye. I’m not really sure how I have gone this long without reading it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
What did you like best about it?
I don’t remember much about it other than the ducks, the prostitute and not liking it, but I think it’s due for a reread.
HI Nicole! Welcome to Three Nerds! Can’t wait to start discussing books with you! 🙂
Hi, I’m Ani. Basically, I’m a college student who loves to read and write. I’m an obsessed fan of fantasy and science fiction in particular but will read books from pretty much any genre, if it seems interesting. Other genres I really enjoy reading are classics, epic poetry, humor, science, history, and religion.
It’s not often that I get to discuss the books that I’ve read with other people (as only a few of my friends like to read, and I haven’t been seeing them a lot lately) so I look forward to discussing with all of you.
Hi Ani, welcome to the group! Thanks for joining us and I look forward to discussing books with you! 🙂
Yay a fellow fantasy lover! 😀 Welcome to our club!
Hi! I am Mozambican, I like to read but I am very lazy. I hope I get more active and learn as much as possible about books and love them with you. As you can realize my English is not that good, that is because we talk Portuguese at my country and I am just leaning English. Hope I become a passioned reader and I’d be really greatfull for getting in touch with nerds, my dreams is become one of them but I think I am not intelligent enough to achieve that point. One!
