Hello Nerds!

Three Nerds and a Book Club has teamed up with fellow awesome book club Bookbenders in a Secret Santa Gift Exchange! Of course it wouldn’t be ridiculously expensive (we are recommending a $5 limit), and we’d be okay with home made gifts. And since this is basically a book blog, we recommend book/fandom related gifts. We just wanted to see if it was a fun thing that could bring us together as a community.

Right now we have an updated timeline:

  • Friday, November 30: Email will be sent out to those we have in the directory to further reach out to the community.
  • Wednesday, December 5: Last day to send an email of interest
  • Friday, December 7: Invites will be sent out to website where SS exchange will be hosted
  • Wednesday, December 12: Last day to sign up for gift exchange
  • Thursday, December 13: Names will be drawn for Secret Santa Exchange
  • CHRISTMAS DAY:  Hopefully you will have received your gifts by now.
  • Tuesday, January 1: If you have not received your gifts by now, please email (Attention to Hecate)
  • Tuesday, January 8: Last day to email complaint
  • Friday, January 11: If more than 3 people have not gotten their gifts, we offer the option of getting a personalized gift from the Three Nerds or a new exchange specifically for these people.

This update will be re-posted periodically as reminders for our fellow book lovers. So what are you waiting for? Send an email of interest and become part of a great community of thinkers, book lovers, and book benders!

Three Nerds and a Book Club is an online book club for those who wish to participate in literary discussions in the comfort of their own homes. It is currently seeking new members to actively participate in lively discussions. We read all kind of genre’s and books which are voted on as a whole group. This is a very casual group that is intended to allow people to talk about books they read. Come check us out, we’d love to have you!

The winner for December’s read is The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien!

“Bilbo Baggins lives a quiet, peaceful life in his comfortable hole at Bag End. Bilbo lives in a hole because he is a hobbit—one of a race of small, plump people about half the size of humans, with furry toes and a great love of good food and drink. Bilbo is quite content at Bag End, near the bustling hobbit village of Hobbiton, but one day his comfort is shattered by the arrival of the old wizard Gandalf, who persuades Bilbo to set out on an adventure with a group of thirteen militant dwarves.”

Discussion pages will be made for The Hobbit sometime early December. In the meantime, you still have 3 days to finish reading and discussing The Handmaid’s Tale.

Unfortunately, this month The Middle Nerd (Hecate) will be skipping our discussions. She’s had a traumatizing experience with The Hobbit in one of her English classes and is weary of returning to that world. Although she admits that the concept and the writing was spectacular, she gracefully bows out of participating in this month’s read.

Thank you to everyone who voted in the poll and to those of you who submitted book suggestions. We appreciate the participation!

Happy Readings!

ImageHey, Nerds!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving – at least all of us in the States. If you’re not from the US, I hope you had a wonderful day anyway! Today’s “Getting to Know You” question is:

How was your Thanksgiving? What was your favorite thing about the day? Favorite food? And for those of us who do not celebrate Thanksgiving, how was your day? Did you do anything fun? What are your family get – togethers like?

On a sidenote: I have a couple of friendly reminders for you!

  • You have 8 more days until you’re supposed to finish The Handmaid’s Tale. If you haven’t done so yet, I seriously suggest you head on over to the discussions page. Like Botato said earlier on, the more you discuss, the more the new year will be beneficial to you. HUGE FORESHADOWING *WINKWINKHINTHINT*
  • You have until Sunday, November 25th to send in your book suggestions for the month of December.
  • Don’t forget to sign up for this year’s secret santa gift exchange! You never know, you might get a nerd this year!

Happy Turkey Day to everyone in the States! I hope you all enjoy stuffing yourselves with delicious turkey and pumpkin pie! 🙂

Thank you all for voting in the poll for December’s genre. The genre selected was fantasy. We will now be accepting book suggestions within the fantasy genre. Please email all book suggestions to (don’t forget the second s!). We ask that everyone submit just ONE book. Please provide the book title, the author, and a brief synopsis if possible. Since it is Thanksgiving, and most everyone is probably enjoying family time (and the food) we will keep the suggestion period open until 11:59 PM (PST) on Sunday, November 25th.

Happy Thanksgiving and happy readings!
