Hi Nerds,

I am so, so sorry that we’ve all been neglecting you guys. We’ve had a lot going on due to the holiday season, so we’ve been super busy and having to deal with other things. I have put up a general discussion for The Princess Bride and we’re just going to go ahead and extend that book for December as well. Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving to those who celebrated it, and that you guys continue to enjoy the holidays!

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll! The results are in and we’ll be reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman.

princess brideThe Princess Bride by William Goldman

What happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be…well…a lot less than the man of her dreams?

As a boy, William Goldman claims, he loved to hear his father read the S. Morgenstern classic, The Princess Bride. But as a grown-up he discovered that the boring parts were left out of good old Dad’s recitation, and only the “good parts” reached his ears.

Now Goldman does Dad one better. He’s reconstructed the “Good Parts Version” to delight wise kids and wide-eyed grownups everywhere.

What’s it about? Fencing. Fighting. True Love. Strong Hate. Harsh Revenge. A Few Giants. Lots of Bad Men. Lots of Good Men. Five or Six Beautiful Women. Beasties Monstrous and Gentle. Some Swell Escapes and Captures. Death, Lies, Truth, Miracles, and a Little Sex.

In short, it’s about everything.

Discussion pages will be made in the following weeks.

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll! Our horror read for the month of October is Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray BradburyDiscussion pages will be made within the next few weeks.

something wickedA masterpiece of modern Gothic literature, Something Wicked This Way Comes is the memorable story of two boys, James Nightshade and William Halloway, and the evil that grips their small Midwestern town with the arrival of a “dark carnival” one Autumn midnight. How these two innocents, both age 13, save the souls of the town (as well as their own), makes for compelling reading on timeless themes. What would youdo if your secret wishes could be granted by the mysterious ringmaster Mr. Dark? Bradbury excels in revealing the dark side that exists in us all, teaching us ultimately to celebrate the shadows rather than fear them. In many ways, this is a companion piece to his joyful, nostalgia-drenchedDandelion Wine, in which Bradbury presented us with one perfect summer as seen through the eyes of a 12-year-old. In Something Wicked This Way Comes, he deftly explores the fearsome delights of one perfectly terrifying, unforgettable autumn.

Hello lovely readers!

The nerds have convened and come to a couple of conclusions. 1) It seems that not many of you care too much about voting for genre 2) It may just be easier for us to choose a genre for the month 3) it is almost Halloween.

From the above conclusions we have decided from now on to choose the month’s genre and then open up for book suggestions within that genre from all of you. So without further ado (and since it is in the season), this coming month’s genre shall be Horror! Our emails are open for book suggestions in the genre and we look forward to seeing what spooky, creepy, or terrifying stories you have in mind for all of us. Send us your suggestions to three.nerdss@gmail.com with the title, author and book description. Feel free to send us more than one suggestion but please no more than three (or if you want to send more send us your top three choices). We’ll post a poll for book votes in a few days time.

Happy Readings!

Hey everyone!

We’re going to be doing something a little different this month. We will be extending the end time for Tiger Lily and Water for Elephants until the end of September. You may be wanting to ask me, “Why are you doing this to us, Hecate?”. Well the answer is very simple, my dear and beautiful nerds. We will be hosting a contest at the end of the month! So with more discussion means more chances to win! It will be an exclusive side story from the author and maybe a little something extra for the trouble from my library to yours!

We will also be hosting a Q&A with the author of Tiger Lily, K. Bird Lincoln. And if we’re lucky, she might give us a little info on her next writing project. In short, we’d like for everyone to have more time to discuss and get those questions ready.

And to be perfectly honest, I still haven’t purchased my copy >.>

Happy Readings!

❤ Hecate
