- How do you feel the photos tie into the story? Do you think they add to the story or take away from it?
- What do you think of Jacob so far?
- Was Jacob’s grandfather crazy or did these things actually happen?
- Do you think there really is some mysterious force at work or do you think Jacob hallucinated?
- Why do you think Jacob’s grandfather was away so often when raising Jacob’s father?
- What do you think really happened on that island?
- Who is Miss Peregrine?
- What do you think will happen next?
I think the photos give a very creepy feel to the story. Like, in of itself, the story is rather chilling but the photos actually make a shiver go up and down my spine. I think that by adding the photos, it ups the creepy factor of the book.
I’m not sure how I feel about Jacob. On the one hand he’s kind of annoying – or at least started out that way, but now I feel kind of bad for him. I mean with everything he’s been through and having to figure out if he’s insane or was the thing he saw actually there, must suck.
I think Grandpa Portman actually went through those things. But that’s just because 1) I believe in a lot of supernatural things and 2) this is a horror story. And to tie in to the next question, I do think that there are dark forces at work.
I’m guessing Grandpa Portman was away for all that time either conversing with Miss Peregrine or researching about those demonic Nazi creature things. Perhaps they are still out to get him and he was just killing them or making sure they didn’t find his family.
I don’t think the children died like the inhabitants of the island believe. I think they’re still alive somehow.
I’m not sure who Miss Peregrine is persay. I have a feeling she is a never aging individual who rescues children with special abilities (like Professor Xavier in X-men).
I can’t answer this because I started reading chapter 5 before answering this because I just totally forgot. My bad.
– I think the photos added to the story. It somewhat set a sense of realism to the story, that these “fantastical” things could happen and there was some photographic evidence – even if most of them were fake.
– Jacob’s okay. As far as being a 16 year old goes, he’s alright. I mean, I assume that he’s a normal teenager and his thoughts and behaviour are understandable considering all the stuff he went through.
-At first I thought they were just embellishments of stories that actually happened or they were warped by the trauma he experienced throughout his life. However, it’s plausible that it could have happened considering this is a horror book and Jacob saw something he couldn’t explain, however i think that Jacob’s trauma of seeing his grandfather die might have caused that hallucination.
– I agree with Scathach that he might have been away so he could try to figure out his revenge against the monsters.
– I would like to assume that Miss peregrine was someone who was a mother figure to the refugees. I’d like to think that each of these kids had some sort of fantastical ability and she was just taking care of them and mentoring them…and I just realized that that’s what Scatty said. so i agree! and it’s per se >.>
– I DONT KNOW AND I HAVE TO KEEP READING.
-I like the photos. I think they add to the creepy factor, and they’re really interesting to look at.
-I don’t think Grandpa Portman was crazy. Like with Scatty, I’m rather open in my beliefs of the supernatural, and the way the book is set up, I figure it has to be real in the context of the story. And yes, I think there is a mysterious force at work. I think there are probably several mysterious forces at work.
-I’m agreeing with Scatty and Hecate that Grandpa Portman was probably away trying to get revenge against monsters. I also think he was probably trying to keep his family safe.
-There seems to be some sort of deep, dark secret about that island, and I am positive that there’s something weird about the island in and of itself.
-I think, like Hecate, that Miss Peregrine was some sort of mother figure to the refugees. I think too she must be some sort of witch maybe? I dunno, something that is “otherworldly” anyway.
-I don’t know what happens next, but I’m hoping we finally see Miss Peregrine!
